Over 1,000 Toxic Ingredients Banned in Europe But Not in US?

Comments

  1. Please add methylisothiazolinone and all isothiazolinones to your toxic list. They are found in many household and personal products and cause horrible skin reactions to those of us who have become sensitized to it.

  2. I am disgusted but not remotely surprised at the lack over oversight of our FDA on anything for women. This country has a long history of profiting off of women’s misery. I would recommend buying cosmetics/creams through Amazon UK as the same products marketed here have additional toxic chemicals added to them that theirs do not.
Don’t believe me? Perfect example: Look at the ingredients in Cerave facial cream in the USA. I almost bought this facial cream from Target–until I realized the USA version has added chemicals to make it toxic, such as parabens.
It’s marketed and looks exactly the same as the UK/French version, so American women think they’re getting the same cream. It’s a big lie because when you look at the ingredients in the back, the formula here is totally different. Let’s start buying overseas because the only thing the companies understand in this country is money and profit–our health is clearly irrelevant, so let’s hit them where it hurts and not buy from them.

    1. Yes! The EU has much higher standards as far as what ingredients are allowed. Not just in the personal care space, but also food. But there are definitely some good brands here in the USA that are clean and green ingredients.

  3. It all started with with my first visit to the urgent care office of my insurance company. I was diagnosed with asthma, and had symptoms of pneumonia. For years I had been on inhalers, antihistamines, etc. until the day I discovered the smell from the hair shampoo and conditioner we were using was the cause of my illness. My sensitivity to toxic cosmetics has become so overwhelming, that I need to stay away from people if don’t want to start coughing.

There are many people suffering from chemical pneumonia caused by cosmetic products and our government, unlike governments in Europe, Canada, Australia just to mention some, have done nothing to ban the use of petroleum derivatives as perfume.

Let’s start by writing to our representatives, or whoever we know can help.

  4. How do we find out which skin care brands follow European guidelines versus US guidelines?
I know Mary Kay follows the European. Do you know what Roden and Fields follow?

  5. You need to do a better research on your article. There are a lot of ingredients you have mentioned here which are in EU products. I guess you have to live in Europe to get to know
these facts or just google a product and read the ingredient’s list.
And if EU products were all safe to use there was no need for labs and other institutions to test these products for all kind of reasons. These tests are also provided in the net for everyone to read. And consider that natural products also contain ingredients that can cause rashes, skin irritations and allergies. It helps already when the ingredient’s list is short and the natural ingredients mentioned on it are up front. Because there is no product without a chemical, considering where and how the cultivation and harvest took place.

    1. You are correct. There are definitely toxic ingredients that are not banned in the EU. And while there are natural ingredients that can cause a rash and that sort of thing, we are talking about toxicity in products. Everyones skin can react to certain things. What we are trying to encourage is people becoming educated on what these ingredients mean and reading the labels on products they buy.

  6. Have any of you tried Arbonne? They have products that are Pure, Safe and Beneficial. Everything from cosmetics, vitamins, make-up, essential oils, skin care, bath care (shampoo & conditioner) shower gel, muscle rub gel, protein powder, body cleanse, greens, engery fizz sticks, the list goes on and on!!!! I have been using Arbonne products for over 18 years and couldn’t be happier with them. In 2018 they didn’t allow over 2,000 toxic ingredients into their products!! Even better than Europe!

    1. We have not thoroughly researched Arbonnne. I have seen some ingredients I dont think are wonderful in SOME of their products. However they likely are better and have better values that store brands.

  7. what can we do to start enforcing fda or government to quit poisoning us on purpose with toxic chemicals isn’t there at some point should be allowed to be sued? i mean babies are fed arsenic and lead and tons of other things in formula its wrong its all about population control I mean they are also known for doing tons of experiments just messed up. what is THE POINT of FDA approval if its approving chemicals that are known to damage it means they are approving cancer and damaging things.

  8. Is there a more recent list of the toxins prohibited in the EU?( since the list says its from 1976) I am trying to write an article on my blog about this same topic. Thanks for the great info!

  9. Great article. The disparity between the EU and the US on this topic is pretty eye opening and I agree with the the fact that, due to the lack of regulation in the US, it really is up to you personally to ensure you aren’t bringing harmful toxins into your home.
