Natural Is Sexy – Bring Yours Back With Natural Beauty Tips That Actually Work!
Rita Hayworth once said, “They go to bed with Gilda and wake up with me.”
Rita is considered one of the most beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen. Yet, even she felt the pressure to measure up to the idea of being beautiful. The ‘beautiful’ stereotype hasn’t changed much since Rita’s time – long voluminous hair, big eyes, full lips, flawless skin, rosy cheeks and a svelte figure. And the same stereotype applies goes for men too. Men who are tall, well dressed, muscular and chiseled are generally favored by society.
A couple of decades later, the quest for perfection and beauty is still in full swing. The cosmetic industry makes billions of dollars every year in the name of making us look beautiful. Going under the knife for a tummy tuck or chin augmentation have become as common as doing to the doctor for a cold. Technology, despite all its positive contributions, has made it even harder for us to be comfortable in our own skin. If you’ve ever tried to squeeze into a pair of skinny jeans, then you know what I’m talking about. The pressure to look and dress like celebrities has become so great that many of us forget that they have a whole entourage that help them look that way every day. We’re not saying that they look horrible in real life, but they do get professional help before they grace the covers of magazines.
Many of us who can’t afford to pay someone to blow dry our hair or do our makeup every morning turn to cosmetics for aide. In any given day, a woman has at least 3 kinds of product on her face. Some can’t even fathom the idea of going out without a tinge of make-up.
The truth is, wearing make-up everyday can also be harmful to your skin. Most cosmetic products in the market contain chemicals that may irritate the skin or cause diseases such as contact dermatitis. In addition, prolonged exposure to these chemicals can lead to premature aging and sensitive skin.
Speaking of skin, do you remember the last time you put the focus on enhancing your natural skin? Set aside your foundations, concealers and BB creams for a minute and look at your skin as it really is. What do you see?
Dark spots, fine lines, uneven skin and acne are just some of the things we saw when we did this little experiment ourselves. It reminded us of the reasons why we use cosmetic products in the first place! However, it also dawned on us that we can do something about our skin problems if we put in a little extra effort. Great skin would mean using less make-up, saving a couple of bucks a year and earning the confidence to go out au naturale! We’re up to the challenge … are you?
We’ve read countless beauty blogs, magazines and books to give you the best natural beauty tips for better skin, hair and body. Unlike cosmetic products that offer you temporary relief from your aesthetic woes, our tips are in for the long haul. Let’s begin!
Exercise
Have you ever noticed the way your skin glows after engaging in any heart racing activity? It’s because exercise increases blood flow to your skin, making sure that each and every cell gets its share of oxygen and nutrients. Good circulation also means that dirt and toxins are removed before they can do any damage to your skin. In the same manner, sweat pushes dirt and grime out of your pores preventing blackheads and pimples from forming in the first place. The benefits of regular exercise go beyond great skin. It also helps reduce stress which is the number one cause of breakouts and lackluster skin. There really is no bad side to exercising – so get moving today!
Hydrate
There’s a reason why health professionals insist on drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day – almost all functions in the body involve water. Water promotes a healthy bowel and bladder habit that helps the body get rid of toxins. It improves concentration and helps in managing stress as well.
When we don’t get enough water, our bodies start to pull water from less important organs such as the skin and divert it to vital organs such as the brain and the heart. In fact, one of the one of the earliest signs of dehydration is dry, flaky skin.
If you have dry skin that is irresponsive to treatment, try drinking more water every day. Water replenishes skin tissue and improves elasticity thereby preventing the premature appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Getting enough hydration is also great for the hair because it prevents scalp dryness which can lead to the formation of dandruff. Just like the skin, hair needs to be lubricated from inside out.
Sleep
Unless you are auditioning for a Zombie role in the morning, nobody likes the way skin looks after a sleepless night. This is all thanks to a hormone called Cortisol. When we don’t get enough sleep, the body releases large amounts of Cortisol which is a stress hormone. Lack of sleep causes blood vessel dilatation which accentuates under eye circles. The skin takes on a sallow appearance, making us look tired and old.
The thing is the body repairs itself when we sleep. If we aren’t getting enough slumber, the body continues to go on with damaged parts. Just imagine this: would you drive a car that has been poorly maintained for years?
Try your best to get at least 6 hours of quality sleep every night. A good tip to remember is to put your phone down as soon as your head hits the pillow. How many of us spend hours every night checking on meaningless things on the internet? Social media can wait until tomorrow. Your body needs its rest now.
Sun Protection
If people think you are older than you really are, you should rethink your sun protection game. While the sun is responsible for life on this planet, too much exposure can also cause fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and sagging skin collectively known as premature aging. In some cases, unprotected exposure to UV rays is also known to cause skin cancer.
Looking 10 years older isn’t sexy at all. This is why it is important to start protecting yourself by using an SPF solution every day. Beauty by Earth’s natural sunscreen is made of nothing but the best from Mother Nature. It provides ample protection from the sun’s rays without harmful chemicals. Another attribute that makes this product oh-so-lovable is that it absorbs instantly- no more waiting for the product to dry before hitting the water!
It also helps to minimize direct exposure to sunlight especially during midday – this is when the sun is most intense! Try to stay indoors between 10am and 4pm or if you can’t help it, use sun barriers such as long sleeved clothing or umbrellas.
Cleanse
Every day, our skin is subjected to various stressors such as make-up, dirt, oil and pollution. Failing to cleanse the skin thoroughly at the end of the day means all that gunk is going to wreak havoc on your skin while you sleep. No matter how tired, drunk or lazy you are, always remember to take off your make-up before hitting the sack. Use a gentle cleanser or wipes to cleanse your face and neck area and follow it up with a toner.
In the old days, toner’s main ingredient was alcohol which was responsible for its bad reputation in the eyes of the general population. Toners were well known to dry out the skin and leave it feeling tight and irritated.
Thankfully, Mother Nature came to the rescue! Gentle yet effective in removing dirt, oil and make-up that hasn’t washed away with your cleanser, Beauty by Earth’s Facial Toner with Rose Water also calms and refreshes your skin with hazel, aloe vera and cucumber. No matter how long lasting and water proof your make-up products are, Beauty by Earth’s Facial toner will wipe them all away.
Exfoliate
According to an article published in the Boston Globe, the average human being loses about a million skin cells a day. But sometimes that number just isn’t enough especially as we grow older. We need to take steps to hasten skin turnover to make way for younger looking skin by exfoliating regularly. Remove dead skin, dirt and oil from your face and neck area by gently scrubbing it with our Konjac Facial Sponges. Konjac sponges come from the Konjac Plant which grows abundantly in Japan. For centuries, the Japanese has been harnessing the skin illuminating properties of the Konjac Plant. At first, these all natural sponges may look too rough and tough to be near your skin. However, after a warm water bath they are ready to rid your skin of impurities and infuse it with Vitamins A, C, E, D, B1, B2, B6 and Folic Acid. Who knew all these goodies can be found in a sponge?
Moisturize
Last but not the least, moisturize. Head to toe, our skin and hair are subjected to stressors such as pollution and harsh weather. Moisturizing helps fight dryness, balance skin tone and improve skin texture by helping the skin absorb and retain water.
Argan Oil is an all around moisturizer that is packed with anti-oxidants, fatty acids and Vitamin E that nourishes the skin from within giving you a healthy glow. It contains natural anti inflammatory properties that help keep breakouts and skin irritation under control. Beauty by Earth’s Argan Oil is made of only 100% natural argan oil. You can be sure that your skin is getting only the best! It’s one of the most expensive natural oils used in cosmetics but you only need a few drops on your skin and hair to do the trick.
Argan oil can be used for your face, neck, body, hair and lips. But for a little extra moisturization for your puckers, we highly recommend our iconic beeswax lip balm. Made for both men and women, our Unflavored Lip Balm helps keep your lips soft and supple even through the worst weather conditions. Beauty by Earth harnessed all natural ingredients such as aloe, beeswax, coconut oil, castor oil, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil to come up with a formula you can wear under your favorite lipstick shade or by itself.
We hope these natural beauty tips will help you take better care of your skin and hair. The results won’t be as instantaneous as using make-up, but they will last longer. These are also practices you can take well into your 60s and 70s looking and feeling beautiful naturally!
Natural beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. This means being able to walk out the door without a trace of makeup and still be able to be your fabulous self. Incorporating these all natural beauty tips into your beauty routine will help you achieve better hair, better skin and a better body without using harmful chemicals or using drastic measures.
