Beauty by Earth Hand Sanitizer Ingredient Breakdown

BBE just recently launched our new range of hand sanitizers in 6oz, 12oz, and 16oz. (Perfect timing, given the current situation. ?) Thankfully, you won’t have to go digging through the aisles for the last bottle anymore. Nor will you need to settle for dried-out fingers from unnecessarily harsh formulas. We’ve got oodles of our safer sanitizer on lock. It effectively wards off bacteria while offering nourishment by way of Aloe Vera and essential oils. In this post, we’ll breakdown the ingredients that make Beauty by Earth’s hand sanitizer a cut above the rest.

Prue breaks it down wonderfully in the video above. If you’d like to see what she discusses in writing, though, keep on reading!

Here are the ingredients:

• Active: Alcohol Denat 62%, Inactive: Water (Aqua), Glycerin (Vegetable), Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Panthenol, Organic Lavender Flower Essential Oil, Organic Peppermint Essential Oil, Citric Acid

So, what are these ingredients? And, what purpose do they serve in our hand sanitizer?

Denatured Alcohol

Our hand sanitizer uses a denatured alcohol base—as recommended by the World Health Organization. (WHO) The FDA even stressed the need for using denatured alcohol to make the product more bitter for the sake of young children who might attempt to ingest it otherwise. The Environment Working Group (EWG) gives it a 1 (their safest ranking).

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera really does it all thanks to an array of vitamins and minerals. As a result, it has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and is intensely hydrating. Adding this super-plant to our hand sanitizer was a no brainer—especially because we already can’t live without our aloe gel for cuts, hair care, blemishes, burns, and anything in between.

Glycerin

Glycerin is added as a skin conditioning agent and protectant. (Soft hands are happy hands!) The glycerin in our formula comes from vegetables, never animal fat. It’s rated a 1-2 by EWG, the highest on their safety spectrum.

Lavender Essential Oil

Not only does lavender essential oil smell great, but it also works great, too. The oil has natural antibacterial, antiseptic, and antimicrobial properties, kicking our hand sanitizer’s abilities up a notch.

Hydroxypropyl Guar

Hydroxypropyl Guar is a thickening agent. Simply put, it makes the gel more gel-y! This ingredient makes the Beauty by Earth hand sanitizer just the right consistency from the bottle to your hands. It’s rated a 1 by EWG.

Citric Acid

Naturally found in citrus fruits, citric acid works as a pH adjustor in our hand sanitizer. Citric acid maintains the optimum level of acidic pH in areas of the skin which are essential for normal skin barrier function. To summarize, your skin barrier is your body’s first line of defense from the elements.

It can also help improve the appearance of photo-aged skin, improve skin elasticity, increase skin firmness, and exfoliates. EWG rates it 1-2.

Panthenol

A form of Vitamin B5, Panthenol is a known skin conditioning agent. This ingredient works alongside the Aloe Vera and glycerin to leave your hands nice and moisturized. EWG gives it a rating of 1.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Finally, peppermint essential oil is a prime bacteria fighter. Its invigorating scent is just the right amount of refreshment you need.

We hope this blog post has helped breakdown the ingredients of our new hand sanitizer. We’re incredibly excited to be adding it to our BBE family and cannot wait to see if you’ve added it to yours. If you’ve given it a try, please give us a review and tag us on any social media post! We’d love to catch it in action.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to continue to expand our range through new products!
